About Curio

I started this weekly newsletter to supplement Edwardian Promenade, and as I fell into the throes of my doctoral career, I realized it was a quick and easy way to communicate the lengthy blog posts I wrote for EP. As the incoming women’s history curator at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, this has become a space to bridge all of my disparate interests and careers as a blogger, museum worker, academic, and creative.

About Evangeline

aka Angela! Blame it on preteen horror stories about getting one’s identity stolen on the internet, but I have been online in various communities under a variety of pseudonyms. I’m wrapping up a PhD in History at Northwestern University, where my dissertation uses the life and career of Etta Moten Barnett to explore the complexities of being a Black woman celebrity and activist in the mid-century. But as Evangeline Holland, I have written a number of articles, novellas, and books and consulted for productions and authors. I have lived all over the country, but currently reside in Chicago with my blooming vegetable garden (in the summer), lots of books, and two cats.

Why not? Edwardian Promenade has been a hub for interesting histories about the turn of the 20th century, and I look forward to sharing this next phase in my life with you all.
